Klasse. Team. Community. Gemeinschaften.

How do we want to live together?

Journey through an inviting hands-on installation where children discover the magic of community through artistic workshops, connecting historical artifacts with modern-day togetherness

Klasse Team Community Gemeinschaften” reimagines Haus Bastian’s Verstärker area through an interactive installation exploring community. Two larger-than-life modular figures, inspired by Greek vases from the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin’s collection, form the centerpiece. These figures disassemble and combine with smaller components, bridging classical art with contemporary engagement.

The installation functions as both artwork and educational platform. School groups begin at Haus Bastian, encountering these deconstructable figures amid wall typography, before visiting the original museum artworks. Upon return, they engage with the space through creative workshops, using the modular elements to create shadow-play dioramas or develop animated films with overhead projectors.

The installation prompts essential questions about community: What brings people together? When do we feel connected? Through experiments with shapes, shadows, and light, participants discover how individual elements transform into collective expressions – reflecting the nature of community itself.

The modular design supports various workshop formats, from creating immersive projection stages using puzzle-like elements to developing spray art compositions with custom stencils inspired by museum collections. These activities emphasize collective creativity and the interplay of light and shadow, connecting participants to both historical artistic traditions and contemporary expression methods.
